"Enemy Amongst Us...Be Not Deceived"

Last Thursday, November 5, a terrorist attack of betrayal was carried out by one of our on in Texas.

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan an American Muslim of Jordanian ancestry went on a vicious massacre leaving 12 soldiers and one civilian dead and 42 people wounded. Make no mistake this was an act against our nation similarly to the 1995 act of another American Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma.

To think our great country, America, afforded the 39 year-old Hasan the American dream. America paid for his military education, whereby he earned a doctorate degree and in return only asked that he fulfill his end of the bargain by protecting and serving. Was this too much to ask for? Was it too much to ask of an American, who swore his allegiance to his country and countrymen, to protect and to serve?

Over the next couple of days Hasan’s lawyers, defenders and some in the media will attempt to explain away his selfish, coward act of violence. Some will pontificate Hasan was troubled (and he was) or that he was tormented by fellow soldiers (possibly). Dr. Hasan was a disturbed soldier in conflict with his religion, himself and duty to protect his country. Like the men and women he provided psychiatric help _ he too needed help.

The possibility that his religion played a role in his horrific act of violence should not and can not be overlooked. We can not fool ourselves in thinking his beliefs could not have played a role in his actions. Some at Fort Hood are quoted as saying Hasan was yelling “Allah is great” while carrying out this coward act of violence against his fellow American soldiers.

Suffice to say, last Thursday should serve as a wake up call that we are not saved from danger simply because it appears thousands of miles away. We see now danger is right in our backyards and oftentimes at our doorsteps.

“and we are not saved…”

Is President Obama Tough Enough?

Is President Obama tough enough? What?

You read it right. This is the latest question being peddled around by the all knowing media (of which I am apart of). The media has gone from telling us the President is cool and smart to asking is he tough. This I might add is causing doubt in the minds of some Americans and the global community. Interesting how some of us change our minds quicker than we change our unmentionables.

A clear observation would dictate we look at previous Presidents.

Jimmy Carter was country. Ronald Reagan was thought to be tough, mean and a finger tip away from a nuclear war. The first George Bush was viewed as Mr. Softy yet stern. President Clinton was slick Willy, a ladies man with a hot temper and the last George Bush tough as nails with his “Dead or Alive” mantra. Now we have Cool Barry. Mr Ultra Laid back who takes his time in making decisions while others wait. He won’t be pressured or bullied. He doesn’t get flustered or shows any emotions of stress (other than his hair getting whiter). He is polite, thoughtful and rarely if ever raises his voice. He greets world leaders with a smile, handshake (some saw a bow) but overall the man is cerebral. What more could we ask for in these uncertain economic times?
Do we want a President who is constantly telling us things are bad? A President who makes hasty decisions because the media writes the economy is taking too long to recover (remember it was the media who said put him in office and all our problems would go away)? Or do we want a President who would threaten those seemed as enemies to get with the program or else (Ha! Look where that got us over the past eight years).

Let’s be fair what exactly is it that the media wants short of running the country themselves? Let’s be fair and give the man a chance to do his job. He has a lot on his plate. Not to mention a nagging media constantly submitting suggestions on their take of what he should or shouldn’t do. Mind you this is coming from a person who didn’t vote for the President, but I respect what he is doing and wish him well. He is after all our President. I can agree to disagree without being disrespectful or being belligerent and saying I have the right to disagree (missing using the right).

Blame the media's inability to clearly report accurately what is going on in the world.

Is he tough enough? It all depends how you define tough.

And The Next Supreme Court Judge Will Be...

Who will he pick? Will it be a hit or miss?

President Barack Obama can not afford to allow politics to be involved in his selection of the next Supreme Court Justice. He _ I am sure _ is not taking the matter lightly, for all eyes will be on him. Those same eyes will have their own personal agendas and want him to choose a candidate of their liking.

Like the person he chooses, he must exercise great jurisprudence in making his selection.  The person he selects should be as humanly possible free of any blemish and impropriety.  There should be no hidden tax issues or secret agendas (on abortion, gay rights etc.). This person must have the aptitude to understand the law of the land and interpret it (The Constitution) without prejudice and malice or political persuasion.  No legislating from the bench.

While at times, public opinion may seem to be the governing way to go, ultimately it will be this Judges understanding of the law which must prevail. But then too,  justice is blind, but it must be able to see and hear and move with the times applying and interpreting the laws of the land as needed.

The perfect example of a Supreme Court Judge would be the biblical King Solomon. In my opinion, traits that an ideal judge should possess can be found in Psalms 15. When King David asked who would abide in the holy tabernacle:

"He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteosness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour, In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury , nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved. "

Failure Isn't An Option

I did not vote for President Barack Obama. I am not a Democrat but a Republican.  That being said, I do not hope, wish, pray or cross my fingers and say “I want “MY” President to fail.”

Failure isn’t an option.

To utter such words to me is akin to “Treason.”

Yes you can mince the words and play with the meaning of wanting him to fail, but at the end of the day to say it out loud or in private is the must un-American thing I have ever heard.  Sure you have the right to say what you want, and I will, painfully and unequivocally defend that right. However, at the same time I want you to know that wishing such thoughts on our President on our nation is disowning your heritage as a citizens of the America. You are in essence saying you want this great country to collaspse!

If this is your visceral wish, then why not leave the country and set-up shop somewhere else?  But you want. Why? Because you know you can say and wish these evil un-American thoughts that are protected under the consituation of a nation whose leader you want to fail.

This country may not be perfect and some of our leaders flawed, but appreciate the ones who are trying to get things back on track. As for the other leaders, take them to task if you will _ for the mistakes they have made. But do not utter words that I would expect our enemies who are treacherous and evil to say.  To do otherwise likens you to them.

As the saying goes “history will judge”.  How will history judge us, once this financial crisises ends?  Will it be kind or will it say when we had a chance to be great and stand together we failed short because of our own dalliances

Cutting Back For The Greater Good

With the enconomy being in dire straits, I have decided to cut back on listening to money gurus like Bernie Madoff, who pontificate how great they are only to be proven as FRAUDS!
I am also cutting back on listening to clowns like Rush Limbaugh, who is hurting our Republican Parties. We need a change!

I am cutting back on believing IVY leaguers are the cream of the crop. Wrong, some of them are cheaters!
I am cutting back on thinking if Wall Street said it's a go. Wrong, you better double check the numbers and even triple check. If it smells it stinks!
I am cutting backing on thinking one stop shopping big banks is the way to go. Wrong! Stick with a solid small bank and you want go wrong.
I am cutting back on investing in Wall Street. You have to know when to hold'em and know when to fold'em.
I am cutting back on listening to people slander Wal-Mart as the evil giant. Wal-Mart will keep many afloat in this dire economy.
What am I not cutting back on? Believing that we as Americans can't do anything if we set our minds to it. Nor will I cut back on thinking the Republican Party can't be a party for all and not limited to ego maniacs who can't see they are stifling our growth!

Do We Need The SEC?

The SEC (Security Exchange Commission) was created in 1934 to restore the public's confidence in the stock market after the Great Depression in 1929. Its mission statement: to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.

Since its formation, nearly 74 years ago, a few things have been consistent. Among them the SEC has steadily grown in bueaurcracy and has done little to nothing in keeping the markets clean and stable. Every decade since the SEC's birth there has been scandal after scandal after scandal. Each scandal has gotten larger and more sophisticated than the last. To name a few of the recent scandals: WorldCom, Enron, Andersen, Aldephia, Xerox, Tyco, Global Crossing, Drexel Burnham (Ivan Boesky), Kidder Peabody and now Bernie Madoff. The list is still growing as this piece is being written and read.

One of the biggest problems with the SEC is its management. The guys running the show are former Wall Streeters, who know the tricks of the trade. They leave Wall Street to work in government _ helping to create laws to regulate the Streets. Next these guys re-enter the public sector to make money; all the while being fully equipped with the know how on how far to push the buttons without getting caught by the laws they helped create. (A new meaning of the fox guarding the hen house).

These guys, not to mention while working in government,  give each other passes on really monitoring their friends companies on Wall Street, unless of course the friend becomes an enemy.
So with all this going on why do we have the SEC?

Can He Perservere?

He hit the ground running. He was good looking, popular and was on a winning team and the media in his corner.

He thought nothing could stop him ___ until he met the Republicans on the Hill.

The media lead us all to believe that President Barack Obama had enough steam coming out of the primaries to win the general election and then go to the White House and command things be done his way. Leave it to the media to create a distorted perception of reality.

Truth is we are now seeing what President Obama is made of. Granted this is his first major test, but if he is to reign supreme for the next four years how he handles this will be the benchmark on how his Presidency will be judged.
The new President is now realizing the hype the media gave his Presidency “ ‘the first African American President’ no one will refuse him” was just that hype. The Republican don’t seem to care who he is or where he came from they are beating down his stimulus package.

Yes he invited them to the White House for afternoon tea and biscuits. The media said he was Ronald Reagan and would surely prevail with this move. Ha! The Republicans came; they drank; they ate and still said no. Now he will have to take his show on the road to get the people to rally his cause by contacting their senators/representatives.

Every day now we see a tired and perhaps frustrated President Barack Obama on television telling saying it is important his stimulus package is approved.

What else is left for Mr. President to do? I suppose it is now time to put aside the first African American title and the media hype and just be the President who needs to get his stimulus package planned. Perhaps he should try strategizing like President Lyndon B. Johnson with a twist of President Reagan.

If only it were so easy as the media claimed it would be.
